Since we had such a diverse gathering of individuals with an interest in the Forum’s goals, we wanted to start off the day’s discussions with some common background and experiences. To do this, ACR Executive Director Kent Seidel assembled the background materials below to send in advance—they summarize some recent research on quality of education and concerns about schools and the curriculum.
To make the research review more palatable and interesting, we asked the students from Lackey High School in Indian Head, MD, to look at the research and develop a dramatization of the key points. With the guidance of their Thespian Troupe sponsor, Cyndi LeDoux, the Masqued Chargers theatre group did a fantastic job of creating and performing a short script that brings home students concerns about schooling today.
